REGISTRATION OPENS JANUARY 01, 2025 This course, co-presented by an attorney and a mental health practitioner, will focus on legal issues that commonly arise in mental health practice. Topics covered will include the following: confidentiality and privilege, how to handle interactions with attorneys and court systems, how to manage subpoenas, court orders, record requests, and custody issues, and tips for testifying in court, as well as ways to minimize liability in practice. The training will specifically discuss how Professional Counselors, Clinical Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Psychologists are discussed in Kentucky law—outside of their specific board law, including necessary requirements to be considered a Qualified Mental Health Practitioner and how each discipline’s privilege is defined. Lastly, we will review general tips for legal business practice in the mental health world. The course will include a question and answer portion where attendees can pose questions related to the training topics. Objectives: Participants will: 1. explore their legal and ethical obligations as they relate to client privilege and confidentiality—both when working with individuals and families. 2. discuss the legal system and their role in subsequent proceedings 3. develop ways to confidently communicate verbally and in writing with attorneys and other court representatives including judges 4. develop confidence in handling record requests subpoenas, and court orders 5. develop competence and confidence when testifying in court 6. analyze ways to practice in a way that minimizes personal and professional liability while still meeting client needs and practicing in an ethical manner. This is a virtual training via Zoom. To receive CE credit cameras must remain on for the majority of the training.

Cancellation Policy
With respect to cancellations and refunds, the policy of Brighter Futures Training & Consultation, LLC is as follows: *If you register for an event and cancel your registration 30 or more days prior to the event, you may receive a full refund minus a $25.00 processing fee. You may also elect to obtain a credit for the paid amount, minus the $25.00 processing fee. *If you register for an event and cancel fewer than 30 days before the event, you are ineligible for a refund. However, you may request a credit for your payment minus the $25.00 processing fee. *Any credit provided will expire 12 months from the date of issue. The attendee is responsible for maintaining the unique code provided by Brighter Futures Training & Consultation, LLC, as it will not be reissued or resent. *If you register for an event and do not attend, our policy is that you forfeit the registration fee, and no refund or credit will be provided. *Brighter Futures Training & Consultation reserves the right to cancel any training due to unforeseen circumstances. If this occurs, you will be notified, and a full refund will be initiated within 72 business hours of the cancellation. Brighter Futures Trainings & Consultation's liability for cancellations is limited to the cost of the registration fee. Brighter Futures Trainings & Consultation is not responsible for other expenses incurred by the customer if training is cancelled.
